Winsor & Newton CP 300 gsm, 14" x 10".this is an obvious riff on rothko's esthetic. the upper half is quinacridone gold (the real thing), the lower half is cadmium red deep.
the color areas were laid in separately, then fused and blended by rocking the sheet back and forth. the puddly middle mixture was lifted out with a moist brush, leaving a subtle texture due to the cadmium pigment and paper surface.
easy and fun to do; pretty and simple.

What a fantastic way to start the new year! Everyone should read it...especially when they hit a rut in their creative journey (plateau sounds far too lofty for the chasm I have fallen into).
When I finished reading, I heaved a sigh, and I said to myself (and I knew it was me, 'cause I recognized my voice) "Okay, so get painting then!" So I am...except for taking this moment to write this little note to say thanks for the lift.

Been down this particular road more than once. tough to argue with the granulation and heat. I'll take this over 99.9999999% of pet portraiture and barnscapes...and clowns....and crystal bowls. A scorcher.
